Route 52 - Nehemiah and Ezra

Ages 4–6: Nehemiah Wants to Do What Is Right, Nehemiah Asks Others to Help Him, God's People Do What Is Right, God's People Thank God

Lesson 1: Nehemiah Wants to Do What Is Right
Nehemiah 1:1–2:6—Nehemiah, a cupbearer for a Persian king, prays that God will help him return to Jerusalem to rebuild the city's gates and wall, a task that had been neglected.

Lesson 2: Nehemiah Asks Others to Help Him
Nehemiah 2:11-20—Nehemiah returns to Jerusalem. During a night inspection of the gates and wall, he determines what needs to be done. Nehemiah approaches the people and asks for their help. The people respond by saying, "Let's get started."

Lesson 3: God's People Do What Is Right
Nehemiah 3; 4; 6:15, 16—Nehemiah and the people work hard to rebuild the wall and gates. When some enemies try to cause trouble, Nehemiah prays for God's help. With God's help, Nehemiah maintains peace and keeps all the people working. The wall is rebuilt in just 52 days!

Lesson 4: God's People Thank God
Nehemiah 8:1-12—When the wall is finished, the people gather to thank God. Ezra, the temple priest, reads from the Book of the Law of Moses. The people listen and are sad because they have not obeyed God. Nehemiah tells them to celebrate because the joy of the Lord will make them strong.
